Responding to the Twitter article we read for class, I’m wondering exactly what people find as twitter’s necessity. Sure, as the article states, we are social creatures. However, how many social networking and media sites are actually necessary? What do they accomplish? Do I really need to read what celebritys eat for breakfast? The article states that about % of the posts on Twitter are actually “news.” Whether or not this news pertains to me, or if I could obtain the information elsewhere is not discussed. It is difficult to gauge the amount of utility Twitter has, and according to which people. For, I am certain that many people must be getting more out of it than myself. This brings to mind the presidential candidates who have their own accounts. If they create their own accounts, it is viewed as unprofessional. However, if they choose not to create their own accounts, they are reducing their social influence. It is a lose-lose situation. Perhaps I simply need to give the whole experience more time and reevaluate my current perspective in order to truly be enlightened as to the utility of Twitter.
