Response to “I Tweet Honestly, I Tweet Passionately: Twitter Users, Context Collapse, and the Imagined Audience” by Alice E. Marwick and Danah Boyd
While skimming the article, what captured my interest was what the article went about studying — the imagined audience of Twitter users. Exactly what is the audience the majority of Twitter users imagine? To whom do Twitter users believe they are tweeting? Perhaps the audience is a group of friends, sought-after celebrities, etc. In my own personal experience with Twitter for my first-year writing course, although I don’t tweet a great amount, my tweets are believed to be directed toward whoever’s listening. Classmates, friends, random followers, etc. may all be listening. However, because I do not believe Twitter carries much weight in my particular situation, I am more-or-less concerned about my audience. Perhaps another would have more insightful comments to make on the subject.
